As we all know we should do everything in moderation, everything? Yes everything! My niece is using a different diet, but it works for her. Note that everyone is different as well as the various diets, or lifestyle changes. What works for you, might not necessarily work for me, and remember, that this is ok.
The ultimate goal is to lose weight, and be healthy while doing so. Knowing your body, your eating habits, your metabolism, and your cravings that can some times be hard to handle, makes all the difference in your journey to healthy living. I promise I could eat a slice of homemade German Chocolate cake every day, but it would not be wisdom for many reasons.
We must ditch the diet, and make healthy living a way of life. We must do what is best for our bodies, and stop trying to be like our neighbors, or friends. Seek medical attention for medical advice when starting a new regiment, drink plenty of water, move about daily, portion control, and avoid certain foods. In previous articles we have discussed what foods to avoid, please check out those articles. I will list them at the bottom of the page.
Helpful Tips:
If you practice most of these things on a daily basis, you will find it easier and easier to change your lifestyle habits and experience tremendous weight control, with wonderful health benefits. See list below:
- Do away with empty calories, such as sodas, fruit drinks or candy and chips.
- Physical activity
- Drink plenty of water
- Intuitive eating
- See a registered dietitian
- Count number of calories
- Join the anti diet movement
- Body positivity
Body positivity is a social movement initially created to empower and shed light on plus size women and men, while challenging the ways in which society presents and views the physical body. The movement advocates the acceptance of all bodies regardless of physical ability, size, gender, race, or appearance.
Remember there are risk factors in diets, and extreme changes in eating habits can do more harm than good. With the diet movement that we have been forced to deal with for so many years, and all the pre-conditions that many are facing today, whether it is prediabetes, a heart condition, it’s high time we get on board with some sort of diet, or change of eating habits for a healthier lifestyle.
High Ketone Levels
If your cells don’t get enough glucose, your body burns fat for energy instead. This produces a substance called ketones, which can show up in your blood and urine. High ketone levels in urine may indicate diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a complication of diabetes that can lead to a coma or even death.
What is Diet Culture?
Diet culture is a system of beliefs and social behaviors that values body weight above health and well-being.
Diet culture means we have been programmed to think the only way to achieve good health, well-being and social status is by making our bodies smaller – or what we call the “thin” ideal.
Weight-stigma – the belief that large bodies are inherently “less-than,” lazy, or “wrong,” is a driving force behind diet culture.
Urine Testing & Levels of Ketones
A urinalysis is a test of your urine. A urinalysis is used to detect and manage a wide range of disorders, such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes. A urinalysis involves checking the appearance, concentration and content of urine.
The sweet spot for weight loss is 1.5 to 3.0 mmol/l. This level of nutritional ketosis is recommended by researchers Stephen Phinney and Jeff Volek. Ketone levels of 0.5 to 1.5 mmol/l, light nutritional ketosis, is also beneficial although not to the degree of full nutritional ketosis.
Ketone bodies are produced by the liver under the circumstances listed above, resultant of intense gluconeogenesis, which is the production of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources (including fatty acids). They are therefore always released into the blood by the liver together with newly produced glucose after the liver glycogen stores have been depleted (these glycogen stores are depleted within the first 24 hours of fasting).
